Down Club: Ballyholme Yacht Club Olympic Experience: First time campaigner General Outline of Sailing Career to Date: Sailed singlehanded (49er) as a youth for Ireland. Was National Champion Rep at Worlds, then campaigned for Beijing with my brother (49er). Then I took a year out to do professional sailing in Australia. Now campaigning a 49er with Ryan Seaton for nearly three years First Sailing Experience: I went out in a twenty pound boat with my brother and Dad when I was about four years old. None of us had been out on a boat before so my Dad was reading a book on how to sail at the time. We made it about 100m before washing up on the beach! Greatest Achievements to Date: Professional Achievements: 7th at 'Sail for Gold' 2012 Personal Achievement: Completing my degree in Sports Science What Did You Want To Be When You Grew Up: A Shop Keeper or a Priest ('cause the two are so similar!) I've definitely grown out of both of those plans! Hobbies/Other Sports: Kite Surfing, Wind Surfing, Rock Climbing, Cycling and Boxing Worst Sailing Moment: The first day of the Laser World Championships in 2001. I was the youngest competitor there and had spent ten hours on the water. It was windy, cold and I was hungry and we had only done one race, which I had been disqualified from. Actually, it taught me the biggest lesson of my life – sometimes you don't want to be somewhere (stuck out on the water in this case) but you just have to get on with it and do it. There is no way to turn back or stop. Favourite Food: Chicken!!
